“This is one of my most powerful and emotional ballads. In some ways it is deeply personal. CHILDREN WITHOUT INNOCENCE addresses a litany of issues in the world such as various forms of Child Abuse, Bullying, Poverty and Neglect, Narcotics and Gangs, Racism, Immigrant Struggles, Injustice, the Internet, Bad Influences and Role Models. There are references to situations I’ve experienced — whether living in, going to, or passing through. The song describes a Society in which children are endangered. Innocence is stolen, deprived in so many ways, types of nourishment withheld, and I feel that this is a huge crying shame. Adults betray their trust by failing to protect their eyes, their ears — preserve their beautiful hearts and minds, keep them safe from harm — and they deserve much more. Kids deserve better from us, as do animals. These are the innocents, the voiceless and defenseless. These are great concerns of mine. I know from experience how harmful it can be when trust is violated, a life damaged. Let us try to give the young and the innocent a world, a future, all the chances for happiness they should have!” ~ Lori R. Lopez

Children Without Innocence
(Song Lyrics – 1993)
I’ve been on a painful journey
I’ve come a long way
Through empty and crowded places
In moral decay
From houses of glass
To corners lined with dope
Where young people clash
For living without hope
Children without love
Bodies without nourishments
Hearts afraid to trust
Children without innocence
Children without innocence
It breaks my heart
That such tragedies are real
But where are there the words enough
To make everybody feel?
We need a pool of love
That everyone throws something in
We need a pool of love
To wash away the suffering
We need a pool of love
To wash away the pool
Of tears
Children without love
Bodies without nourishments
Hearts afraid to trust
Children without innocence
Children without innocence
Everyone deserves to live with
A certain dignity
No matter how diverse or humble
Or small they may be
Ragged souls alone
Families torn apart
Children lost at home
All need a decent start
Children without love
Bodies without nourishments
Hearts afraid to trust
Children without innocence
Children without innocence
It breaks my heart
That such tragedies are real
But where are there the words enough
To make everybody feel?
We need a pool of love
That everyone throws something in
We need a pool of love
To wash away the suffering
We need a pool of love
To wash away the pool
Of tears
Children without love
Bodies without nourishments
Hearts afraid to trust
Children without innocence
Children without innocence.
